Bakin’ under the Plastic Surgery Sun

Friday, September 4th, 2015

Summer time is perfect: no school, no rain, crowded beaches and sun, sun, sun! And teens are finding another reason to love summer more: plastic surgery.

Statistics show that teen surgery peaks during the summer months. In a teen’s schedule, summer is the ideal time to set that date with a cosmetic surgeon for several reasons:

  1. There is no need to be absent from class for the surgery
  2. The long break provides a lot of time for recovery
  3. There would be lesser chance of gossip as all the change in appearance could be blamed on simply growing up during the summer.

Adventurous teens could even have the procedure done while on vacation on any of the top plastic surgery countries like Brazil, South Korea or Thailand.

But no matter where or what season the procedure is done, youngsters must be well informed before committing to go under the knife. High-profile teen plastic surgeries like that of Kylie Jenner and Ariel Winter are being cited as the cause of the high numbers, but the truth is, the pressures of adolescence had been leading teens to the path of cosmetic surgery in search of their identity and self-confidence. At this stage of their life, they are very vulnerable, that is why it is important to consult with a surgeon who understands and can explain the effects.

A major factor that must be considered before a surgeon agrees to operate is the physiology of the patient. Features are still being developed at this age, and operating without caution might spell a disaster if the mixture of the surgery and natural physical development of the teen are not complimentary.

Risk of the procedures must also be well explained. Technology is now very advanced and is still getting better, but full disclosure of what could go wrong must be made. Teens must also have the right reasons for taking the surgery. Many teens are already mentally mature, but they are still forming their self-image at this phase and regret later in life must be avoided as much as possible.

So before lying under a surgeon’s sun this summer, teens must think first if they can wait another summer and trying laying out under the sun for the mean time.
